Since you’re reading this page, I’m going to make the broad assumption that you’re curious what all this is about. If that’s a bad assumption, well, too bad for you. I’m going to write anyway.
First, a bit about me…the aviation bug bit me when I was about 11 years old or thereabouts. I vividly recall going for a short flight in a Cessna 172 on my 12th birthday, a gift from my parents. Over subsequent years, I had the usual meandering teenage interests, but I came back to the sky sometime in my twenties. Even so, life got in the way, and my longtime goal of earning my pilot certificate didn’t happen until 2010.
Still, those intervening years weren’t without lots of dreaming about what it’d be like once I started flying, what I’d do with it, etc. Maybe I couldn’t fly, but I could definitely read about flying. At some point in those years, I found out about the wonderful world of homebuilt aircraft. It seemed like a win-win situation…a less expensive route to aircraft ownership, and an opportunity to indulge my love for building things. I had heard lots of good things about the Vans RV series of aircraft, and it only took one flight to plaster the “RV grin” on my face and for me to know that I was definitely going to build one. So now, just a couple years after passing my private checkride, I find myself in a situation where I’m ready to build. Tools have been acquired, building classes have been taken, a garage is being prepared…and this blog is going together. This thing doesn’t just exist to show off all my hard work, but also to track the time I spend on this project.
Let the fun begin!
